TsPA February 2015 Agenda: Islam and Terror, Rising Islamophobia in Europe'
The attack against satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, causing the deaths of 10 humourists and 2 police officers came to the fore both in the agenda of Turkey and in the world agenda during the first week of 2015.
Similar international attacks in the past, like the one in 11 September 2001, as well as hostage crises we followed on the televisions all day with live broadcasts and operations against them; all caused the debates on Islam, Terror, Islamophobia to enliven, actually starting in 2014 with the IS.
Leaders from all around the world participated to the marching demonstration organized on 11 January, protesting terrorist attacks. Similar demonstrations were organized in many capital cities and in famous squares. Some titles which were debated for days, both in the politics and in public were “Can terrorism be reduced to one specific religion?” “Can anything be a topic of humour?” “Should the response against humour with the sacred be with weapons?” “To what extent is there freedom of expression?” as well as the activities of PEGIDA, IS and Al-Qaida…
These titles also reached the peak for the February 2015 TsPA Meetings, therefore the general agenda took its final form as “Islam and Terror, Rising Islamophobia in Europe.”
