A committee consisting of participants from the Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa, Adana and Kocaeli small National Assemblies have been gathered at 13.30 to present the 10 Demands, a document explaining the demands from the next elected President of the Republic, prepared by the small National Assemblies of Turkey (TkMM), which carries its work on 22 cities, to the candidate President of the Republic, Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu.
Exempting the 6th and the 10th clauses of the 10 Demands document (indicating that he is chary of the clauses), İhsanoğlu has signed the document, stating that all clauses match up with his objectives:
If I am elected President,
- I will uphold the principle that separation of powers, and checks and balances, are essential to good governance.
- My guiding principle will be respect for and commitment to the Law
- I will be impartial in my relations with all political parties and people of every opinion.
- I will scrupulously comply with the principles of openness, transparency and accountability in all my activities.
- I will give priority to collaboration with civil society in every step I take.
- I will give due importance to decentralisation in all my actions.
- I will always act with impartiality toward all persons in matters of freedom of expression.
- I will always act with impartiality toward all persons in matters of freedom of belief.
- I will be at all times impartial with respect to ethnic differences.
- I will work toward a positive outcome to the Resolution Process*, and I will support a general amnesty and mother-tongue education.
*(A comprehensive solution to the armed conflict in southeast Turkey, and related issues)
6th Clause: I will give due importance to decentralisation in all my actions.
Reason of Chariness: This topic needs to be discussed further and there has to be an agreement to reach.
10th Clause: I will work toward a positive outcome to the Resolution Process*, and I will support a general amnesty and mother-tongue education.
Reason of Chariness: We have to wait for the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM)’s attitude about this topic, and the common opinion, the national, political consensus.
The committee of TkMM requested appointments also from the other two candidates, Erdoğan and Demirtaş, and they are still waiting for a reply.
