The second workshop series of GNAT Joint Working Groups continued with meetings organized in Batman, Istanbul and Ankara in order to inform NGOs on the draft law prepared by the government for a Human Rights Institution to be established in Turkey as suggested by the United Nations to be established in many countries, as well as to determine the common denominators of the civil society on what to change in this law, why and how.
Chosen representatives in the three introductory meetings gathered once again on the meetings organized in Ankara on 5-6 October 2010. GNAT Constitution Commission Chairman Prof. Burhan Kuzu, sub-commission Chairman Mustafa Çetin and commission members İsa Gök, Hüsnü Tuna and Hamit Geylani attended the final meeting.
We witnessed with surprise that the most important clauses of the final resolution constituting common opinions of the civil society and the commission was changed back to its original in the text sent to GNAT by the commission. However, the draft became obsolete once the legislative session was over. When the new legislative session came, the government sent not this last text, but the text initially prepared by them to the general assembly.
