Turkey has experienced a long and dark night on July 15.
During the coup attempt, military tanks were visible on the bridges at the Istanbul bosphorus. With the low altitude flight of aircrafts in Ankara, many public buildings, including the Parliament building have been fired. Approximately 250 citizens have lost their lives that night, thousands have been injured.
sPAT has given a break to its meetings with the June 2016 meetings until the next LEgislative Session. Following this unfortunate extraordinary situation, we said, “We need to talk, more than ever;” and transmitted our suggestion to gather meetings to our active provinces.

Common denominators emerging from the meetings are as following:
- We are against all forms of coup. The common attitude in the politics following the coup attempt has to continue.
- Both civil and political normalization need to be provided, the State of Emergency must not turn into a witch hunt, the trialing of coup plotters must base on the supremacy of law.
- A “New Constitution” needs to be built, including all parts of the society; “merit” needs to be prioritized within the government.
